Aluminium & Tin Cans
Aluminium cans are made from bauxite, an ore mined from the Earth. Tin-coated steel cans are made from iron ore and tin. Aluminium cans are the soft, squashy ones used for soft drinks and beer. Tin cans used for various food products are more solid and don’t squash as easily.
Accepted for Recycling
- Cans and tins only. No other aluminium or tin items can be accepted.
Preparation
- Remove lids from tin cans and place inside.
- Wash and squash all cans.
We handle 3,500 tonnes of aluminium and tin cans each year. If you stacked a year’s supply of them on a cricket pitch, you’d get a pile 1885 metres high – or nearly six times as tall as the Auckland Sky Tower. |
